Disguised Porn

So, here we have (starting from top to bottom),Mile High Pilot, The Refreshinator, Camo Cutie, Texas Hold'Em,  Officer BUSTED and Officer Pat U Down....something is wrong with these pictures. Why does a simple holiday give young women the liberty to go scantily clad? Halloween is supposed to be about disguising yourself as something clever and eating candy, not showing the the sluttiest version of yourself. It disgusts me to see that there are girls who actually have the audacity to dress up, or down should I say, like this. They are exposing themselves because they think it looks "hot or sexy." NEWSFLASH GIRLS, you don't look "hot or sexy", you look trashy, unsophisticated and hooker like. It is time that girls get some self-respect for their bodies and a decent amount of gumption to not give into the idea that you have to wear close to nothing and dress up and look like a prostitute. Playboy even has "officially licensed" costumes... also known as "officially licensed" to look like trash. How absurd is that. Now girls, I know Halloween is this weekend, and Im sure you all will want to look cute, but when deciding whom or what you are going to dress up as, I hope you use good judgement  when it comes to picking out your costume...Bottom line think about how you want to be remembered. That girl who looked like a slutty porn star, or that girl who looked sophisticated like Audrey Hepburn?

Keep it classy girls.

I don't understand why you are hating so much on more provocative halloween costumes. It is the girls choice on what they want to be. Like the movie mean girls says, "Halloween is the one excuse to dress slutty and not be judged for it." Just because a girl decides to dress promiscuously one night, does not mean that is how she is. She can dress provocatively on Halloween and still be a respectable young lady. I think it is fine if girl's choose one night to let it all out and not be judged. I mean we do live in a society that puts women down for doing anything thats questionably provocative.

I've got mixed emotions on this subject. I don't think that there's a need to be so incredibly angry at the female population that chooses to wear a little more provocative outfits. It is their choice and their reputation you're claiming will be affected. On the other hand, I'm not okay with the choices some girls make after buying the outfit. For example, the girls that choose to wear lace thongs, or even no underwear at all, deserve to have a bad reputation. NO ONE wants to see that.

Bottom line. It's their decision whether they want to wear it or not. It's halloween on a college campus..look around. You're not going to stand out & be labeled a whore just because you're dressed as a "naughty nurse." Get over it. It's their decision.

I am going to have to agree with the two previous comments on this one. People would not dress like this if it was not a normal thing to do on a college campus. Honestly, as sad as it may be, someone wearing a more sophisticated costume may stand out even more than a girl wearing a more provocative outfit.

I agree that some of the outfits are way over the top, however. Sometimes, at theme parties, I will see people dressed with almost nothing on and just asking to be harassed (it does not help that she might have some alcohol in her system). However, it is her choice on what to wear and I do not see it as the big deal the initial blogger makes it out to be.

wow. that was harsh. i agree with earljackson you should be able to dress anyway you want to on halloween. halloween is wear you dress up as something you are not. the reason they make costumes like that is for giggles. and not you wont be remembered for being that trashy porn star or whatever. it is one night out of 365 nights. who in the world is gonna remember what you were for halloween last year besides you. halloween is the only time girls can dress like sluts and have fun with it and not be thought of as a slut. and porn is nudity, everything in these outfits is covered up completely.

I agree that you should be able to dress however you want for Halloween, but the costume industry doesn't leave you with much of an option when the vast majority of costumes are extremely revealing. Halloween is suppose to be a night where you can dress up as someone else, someone different than yourself. The majority of provocative girls find it to be a night where they can dress like whores and be accepted. Although I might not agree with that, or choose to partake in it, who am I to care or judge how other people dress on Halloween?

In response to the 5 above comments, just because everyone is doing it, and the costume industry caters to a more provocative population, it by no means "makes it right". Each an everyone of you represent so much more than yourselves. You represent your family, your beliefs, your standards and even your university. There are people that I met that night for the first time, and the image I have of them in my head is not a sweet, cute and pleasant one, it is an image of them with too much hanging out of their costumes. That image is now associated with that person, they may be nice, but that night they were not making a good impression. Once again just because it is "one night out of the 365 days" doesn't make it right! You represent yourself wherever you go. Period. Dressing up provocatively "just for one night, because everyone else is doing it" is just an excuse to dress like slut. And explain to me why girls wonder why they get sexually assaulted on Halloween. Well. gee, let me think about this one, your putting a lot out there and you wonder why boys go after it. The more you show, the more attention you are going to draw to yourself. Lets just say alcohol+ super short skirt and super low top + boys who want to take advantage of girls = DANGEROUS situation. Regardless of whether it's right or wrong, you are putting yourself in a compromising situation by exposing your bodies in a provocative manner. And, isn't it funny that those of you who are attacking me for writing this blog are doing exactly what you are telling me not to do, that is, judge.

I find the argument comical. It is strange to me in the first place that the issue is being brought up here in Texas of how 'slutty' girls dress on Halloween. I grew up in a city with people much different than the conservative type I’ve found here in Texas. While I am not saying that I condone or think Halloween is any justification to dress provocatively, I wonder how you would react to the sight of a Halloween party in my hometown. I hate to say it, but a bra and booty shorts is standard.

I find this post interesting and amusing. The real danger, it seems to me, is that many under-18 teenaged girls can fit in to these costumes and sexually objectify themselves. As if the fashion industry for little girls isn't hyper-sexualized enough!

I understand the commenters. I also understand Bella's commentary on first impressions and representations. Even though it's Halloween and a time to try on a new skin (or personality), what you choose to wear is a part of your hidden desires and personality. Women are raised in a culture that sexually objectifies them in advertisements and teaches them that they need to show skin to be desirable. Look at ANY fashion ad for confirmation. Men are encouraged to be aggressive and macho or really funny in films. Think about it guys: how often do you dress up in a gigolo outfit, or in a thong, for a party? Most guys choose violent or utlra-silly costumes, and women are more often encouraged to dress scantily. We choose costumes that get us the attention we desire. I don't see a problem with wanting to be desired. I do see complications for women's intellectual advancement if we annually choose to seek that desire through exhibitionism. For example: imagine if a photo emerged of Hillary Clinton wearing the mile-high pilot costume when she was 19. Do you think her career would have ever survived the scandal?
I don't think wearing skimpy costumes reveals the morality of the wearer, but I do think it can be detrimental to a young woman's career, especially in the age of youtube and mass file-sharing.
